The manufacturing of LED lamps started more than fifty years ago but the development of LED technology erupted only in the 2000s. The capacity of LED lights has increased manifold, bringing about an expansion in the use of LED lamps too. Simultaneously, it was a natural process that an increasing number of designers turned their attention to LED, combining and enhancing its best attributes. The London Led Lantern specifically places emphasis on energy-economy, which goes hand in hand with the product’s environmental friendliness and long life cycle. The lamp is characterised by a diversity of uses: it is suitable for use in the industry as well as in the industrial lighting systems of sports facilities, and, above all, in public lighting, as it can be installed at various heights, with variable optics and settings, and fitted to vertical and horizontal posts alike. Thanks to the mature design, the London Led lamp fits in with virtually any environment. Jury statement

The “London Led” street light, a thought-through and elaborated product in every detail, establishes a high standard connection between form and function. Designed for public spaces, its form is not pretentious, enabling it to blend in with any kind of architectural environment, while technologically being ahead of its time. The right application of LED is one of the challenges of today, and, exploiting the opportunities at hand, the designer has created a durable and homogeneous lamp. The construction of the design is well thought through both from the point of view of manufacturing and servicing. Central considerations of the project included finding an ergonomic lighting solution, since light is often disturbing during travel, while retaining energy efficiency, with both aspects being of defining importance in the area of public lighting. By international comparison the product could become an iconic example of sensible and rational Hungarian design.
